Días azules tells the story of three brothers on holiday in El Ferrol, who must leave the place suddenly due to a car accident, only to return ten years later. Intense colours, luminous images with lots of contrast, over-exposed high lights were the concepts that determined the approach to the cinematography.


Miguel Santesmases showed us some images he had shot himself, which were remarkably over-exposed, and he suggested reviewing the work of painter Bonnard and his treatment of light, the way he approached the contrast between warm and cold tones in different planes. Using fauvist points of view on one hand and impressionist angles on the other we decided to use intense colours, pure and saturated, letting the light show its different colours depending on the time of the day or the reflections of the objects on which it falls. The colour blue, in its different degrees of intensity, acted as a unifying theme throughout the whole film. Blue is a colour associated to friendship, harmony and trust despite its apparent coldness ("Wie Farben Wirken", Eva Heller), feelings which are present in the relationship between the three brothers. It is a colour that also possesses a feminine quality, a very present element in the film and which has a vital role for the three brothers. It is the colour of the sky and of the sea, spaces that frame the action and the characters' development.


In the section on colour grading we can see the different colour tones we worked with during the shoot, as well as the end result sequence by sequence with the adjustments made with the ColorMaster.
