plauto
There were two defining influences in the conceptual development of Plauto’s photography. The first one had to do with the use of colour, as we tried to approximate as much as possible the Technicolour look of the 30’s and 40’s. We created a bible with skin tones, clothes, locations, etc. and we tried to replicate it modifying the colour matrix in the camera and later in the colour grading. This approximation is obviously based on the colours as we perceive them today, as they have been modified in the collective imagination by the passage of time, so we have reproduced colours which tend towards magenta; or towards the reds in other cases, to give the impression of an outdated image. The second referent was the drawings made by George Grosz during his period in Berlin. The characters in the film present themselves as grotesque beings, caricatures of themselves and therefore beyond the limits of reality, inscribing them as pure fantasy. Following this premise, we used strong colour tones, creating great contrasts between the atmospheres with light shadows and the ones with bright lights, using luminously white skin tones and clear colour dominances.
